MINISTRIES

ALTAR SERVERS

Altar servers assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. While assisting at the weekend Masses and other liturgical celebrations, it is important that servers be active participants in the liturgy and that they listen, sing, and pray with the entire assembly. Boys and girls who have received their first communion and are in 3rd-12th grade are invited to become Altar Servers.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are lay members who assist the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass, bring communion to the sick or aged, or expose the Blessed Sacrament in a chapel for Holy Hour because of the shortage of ordinary ministers.

If you believe you have a vocation and feel worthy to distribute the body to the faithful, please contact Marty Navarro in the Church Office 954-942-3533 to set an appointment.

Or email us at churchoffice@stcoleman.org

Training for all Extra Ordinary Ministers with Fr. Richard Vigoa will be on September 21st at 10:00am -12:00pm.  Please RSVP to Marty Navarro at mnavarro@stcoleman.org.

USHERS

Because of its importance, the role of usher has had a long history in the Catholic Church. Referred to as porters in the Third Century, ushers used to guard the church doors against disruptive intruders. Today, ushers serve the opposite function by being the first to welcome parishioners and visitors to mass. Other duties include, passing around the collection baskets, assisting the eucharistic ministers by pointing out those who cannot proceed through the communion line and therefore need communion brought to them, and distribute the weekly bulletin.

LECTORS

The primary role of the lector is to proclaim the readings from sacred scripture, except for the gospel, in the Mass and other sacred celebrations. The lector also recites the psalm between the readings when there is no psalmist. The lector also presents the intentions for the general intercessions if there is no deacon and the intercessions are not being sung by a cantor.

MUSIC MINISTRY

The human voice is the primary instrument of musical worship in the Catholic Church. The communal singing of hymns, psalms, and sacred texts fosters unity, gives glory to God, and unpacks mysteries of our faith. New members are welcome and encouraged to contact us.
